Holiday Inn Express Folkestone - Channel Tunnel

Cheriton Park, Cheriton High Street, Kent, Folkestone CT18 8AN, UK – 01303 298450

Very good place to stay when you cross the channel. Although only holiday Inn express it does serve very good basic evening food and the staff are very very friendly. If eat in here in the evening the hotel manager well usually be your waiter. Breakfast is included and it's basic but very good. Parking is good and just down the road is a tesco with a petrol station. I would recommended this place looks have stayed many times.

Bit hard to find but handy for the Chunnel. Our room had just been refurbished so very pleasant. Food served until 9.30 pm . Family rooms available (sofa bed). Local take-aways deliver here. Good solid holiday Inn express (what you'd expect)

Best Western Plus Burlington Hotel

3-5 Earls Ave, Folkestone CT20 2HR, UK – 01303 255301

Absolutely wonderful surprise. After leaving a previous hotel (the Clayton, trust me, don’t stay there!) we arrived close to midnight, greeted by a friendly receptionist. Our room was lovely, freshly decorated and perfectly clean. We stayed in a four star place the week before and if anything, the Burlington exceeded this and it’s rated at just 3! Lovely comfortable beds, immaculate shower room. All the things you’d expect - tea, coffee, shampoo etc. Room itself was large and bright. Also there’s a bar in basement which is great too! Sadly didn’t try the food, but it looked tasty. 100% recommend!

Nice old building with sea views. My room had been renovated to a high standard. We had a really nice evening meal during a Christmas function. I'd recommend the lamb. Breakfast was OK. The fruit juices were watery and some of the sausages could have been browned a little more for my taste. Overall a great value stay. Update 2017 12 months later I came back here and stayed in the same room. It still looked brand new! The function was great as was the food. Breakfast was great and the restaurant had been fully refurbished and looks great. Renovation continues and it's all to high standards. The new bar looks amazing and I'm looking forward to experiencing the mixologist when it opens. The eggs for breakfast were cooked to perfection too.

Best Western Clifton Hotel

Clifton Gardens, The Leas, Folkestone CT20 2EB, UK – 01303 851231

I really like this place since it's had a refurbishment. Staff are pleasant and rooms are spacious and clean and location is directly on the Leas promenade. Just be sure to ask for a heater if it's cold because the central heating isn't the most efficient.

Good food and environment, very pleasant staff. The building is old so expect uneven floors and crooked walls, see photos. My stay was spoiled by being unable to turn off the radiator in my overheated room. Shower curtain was suspended by a piece of elastic. My fourth floor room was small and the access to it via short flights of stairs, up and down, reminded me of Basil Fawlty. Polly!

Pubs, Gastro Pubs and Bars

Master Brewer

Perries Mead, Broadmead, Folkestone CT19 5UD, UK – 01303 250903

I was here for a Wake. Standard buffet and the ale just ordinary at best but the pub was very friendly and we felt most welcome. If i lived local I would call in again.

Great prices and great food, will be visiting again

The Pullman

9 Church St, Folkestone CT20 1SE, UK – 01303 488966

Went in ad-hoc on a Sunday lunch, got a table quite quickly. The staff were organised and friendly. The food was great and the atmosphere was very nice. For a 'walk in' this was a good place to find. We will be going back again and if you want a well priced meal this is a good place.

The best restaurant in Folkestone, closely followed by the tapas place but the service at the Pullman's is always spot on! The waitress is great, welcoming and very friendly. Fantastic menu, lots of traditional British food to choose from, something for everyone, and the portion sizes are generous too

Travel Super Market search and compare prices for hotels all over the world. Could also be useful for you. I This said I was told by a hotelier that the way to get cheap rooms is to ring up the week before and ask for the weekend rate. You can usually get an absolute bargain as they will trying to book all the rooms that they have not sold! Could be worth a try!

Sunny Lodge Guest House

85 Cheriton Rd, Folkestone CT20 2QL, UK – 01303 251498

Me and my family had traveled from London and had experienced a long drive, however the owners, Shelley and Mick, were extremely warm, hospitable and made us feel at home. The Guesthouse is relaxed, comfortable and has all facilities that you will require. The food is cooked by Shelley and is absolutely wonderful with a selection at breakfast - you couldn't ask for more! The prices are extremely ideal, especially for families and pet owners! With regards to the location, you are only a stone throw away from the town center, seafront and Dover. You cannot go wrong with Sunny lodge and I will continue to visit. :-)

Arriving late afternoon in Folkestone we were very lucky to get the last free room. The owners are very friendly and helpful. They also make a good English breakfast. Room was very cosy and clean. Would certainly stay again!

If you would like something truly different you might like to have a look at Airbnb. These are mostly B and Bs provided by people on a very informal basis. The may have a spare room, a yurt, a cottage or a barge with space they can receive guests for a night or a month! The website is highly professional. You can really see what you are going to get. Very well worth a look. Airbnb also show 'conventional' B&Bs as well. Enjoy!

Campsites and Caravan Parks

Little Switzerland

Wear Bay Rd, Folkestone CT19 6PS, UK – 01303 252168

Friendly, superb hospitality and great location for beach, walks, town etc Ideal pre and post channel hop for motorhome

One of the most visually-stunning campsites I have stayed at anywhere in the world. Tucked comfortably into the white cliffs, with an amazing elevated sweep across the English Channel to a tinderbox-view of France at night, Little Switzerland offered a warm welcome to a group of cyclists tired out after a day of Alpine climbs into and out of Dover and on the approach to Folkestone. And the warm hospitality (and cold pint of beer) offered by the site owner on arrival was very welcome, even keeping the bar/restaurant open late so we could eat our dinner indoors before heading to our tents for the night. Much, much appreciated!

Folkestone Camping and Caravanning Club Site

The Warren, Folkestone CT19 6NQ, UK – 01303 255093

A clean and tidy, well run Camping & Caravanning Club Site situated on the cliff edge at The Warren, Folkestone. A dog-friendly site within minutes walk from a wild dog-friendly beach where a cliff-top walk to Folkestone takes about 35 minutes. This lovely site is situated in its own micro-climate. It is so well sheltered that even in a gale-force southwesterly (the prevailing wind) there was barely a breath of wind. Open to non-members. One word of warning; the site is approached by a long narrow winding road. For this reason only motorhomes and tents are accepted.

We have spent many weekends at this idyllic campsite. The views are amazing the staff are very friendly and helpful the beach is dog friendly all year. The toilets are very clean and lovely laundry area. Very sad it closes during the winter period. There is a long steep road approaching the site which can cause problems during summer periods when people park for the beach and you are trying to get through with motorhomes. This all adds to the experience of this wonderful secret hideaway.
