Sandgate Road Surgery

180 Sandgate Rd, Folkestone CT20 2HN, UK – 01303 851241

This surgery is excellent. The doctors are all professional, dedicated and kind. The reception staff are very helpful and supportive and very patient with the inevitably rude complaints that they, like all public sector workers, receive from who people who feel entitled to insult in a way that they would never dream to do in Tesco. Urgent appointments can almost always be made on the day: for example I visited the walk in centre on Thursday but they were unable to treat me and said I had to see my GP. This was at 1:15. At 1:30 when the lines opened again I was answered within 1 minute and a very attentive and sympathetic receptionist booked me an appointment for 3:10. I was seen, promptly at 3:10, by a kind and extremely efficient doctor who provided a very thorough service. As always I came away feeling that the surgery had my best interests at heart. I feel we should all pause and consider what a hard job these people do. The surgery may officially close at 6pm most days but only the most naive would imagine that the staff all rush home then. They have reports to write up, letters and referrals to write, repeat prescriptions to authorise. And those are just the obvious jobs that occur to a layman. To be taking appointments from 8am they must be at work from 7:30 at the latest so they are probably working 12 hour days at the least. Many of us have important and responsible jobs but let's remember doctors are responsible for lives. The NHS is chronically underfunded which even the government has now acknowledged. In the light of this the service offered by sandgate road - and no doubt thousands of other surgeries up and down the country - is exceptional. Let's remember that and be grateful that we don't have the sort of system they do in America where the first question care providers ask is "Do you have insurance?" not "How can we help you today?" And if we have to wait a few minutes before the phone is answered because other patients are being dealt with, well then let's just be . . .patient!

Always found reception and doctor's very helpfull Thankyou
